Nursing students of IVA paramedical campus Kandy had a worthwhile opportunity to visit the General Hospital – Kandy on 11th August. A group consisting of 20 students participated and contributed to cleaning and organizing the Oncology ward of Kandy General Hospital, re- arrange drug trolleys and drug cupboards, and cleaning and reorganizing the cupboards consisting of cannulas, saline, NG tubing, and syringes.
The patients were also provided with refreshments by student’s funds and the students got an opportunity to participate in a detailed lecture provided by a male nurse on duty at the oncology ward, which highlighted several aspects of cancer care including treatment options available for cancer patients, concerns related to cancer medications, the procedure of providing meals for a patient with an oral carcinoma and the ways of preventing an occurrence of a carcinoma.
